BERK CZ s.r.o. is a dynamically developing engineering and technology company based in the Czech Republic since 2003. Our company is the successor to the engineering and research work of BERK, which was founded in 1989 on the basis of research and development work carried out since 1973.
The company specializes in technological research, production and technological units for the renovation of worn products, and corrosion protection of machines and equipment.
Our many years of experience and the technology we have developed enable us to renovate various products, ranging from motorcycle crankshafts (10–20,000 rpm) to heavily stressed crankshafts (tractors, tractors, locomotives) as well as the renovation of shafts of technological equipment operated under various conditions, cylindrical components.
High quality and reliability are achieved thanks to our know-how technology and the exceptional quality of the surface layer made of special materials developed and manufactured by us.
High wear resistance is achieved thanks to a 1.5 to 2.5 times lower coefficient of friction (the dependence of wear resistance on the reduction of the coefficient of friction is quadratic).
Changes in the geometric dimensions and structural parameters of the renovated products are eliminated thanks to the low temperature of the technological process (80 to 110 degrees Celsius).
A technological unit has been developed and put into operation (Prague, Czech Republic) that enables high-quality renovation of the surface of crankshaft and bearing journals of heavily stressed crankshafts of K6S230DR diesel engines from diesel-electric locomotives manufactured by ČKD Praha (Czech Republic), K12S230DR, K6S310DR, 14D40, 5D49, D50, SM42, CATERPILLAR, MTU, as well as crankshafts of cogeneration plants for electricity generation and other shafts (cast iron, steel, nitrided, hardened). The unit also enables the surface renovation of wagon and locomotive wheel sets.
Renovation is carried out by grinding the renovated surfaces, spraying these surfaces using BERK technology, and then grinding them to the required dimensions. The above-mentioned spraying technology is a very effective technology, which can be used in repair shops to restore the original properties and dimensions of worn, deformed or even to a certain extent defective (in terms of cracks) crankshafts of combustion engines, with the aim of reducing the costs of purchasing a new crankshaft.
The main advantages of this technology include:
- Thanks to the low temperature and high speed of the applied material, there is no internal stress or dimensional deformation of the crankshaft, nor any structural changes to the base material. As a result, the base material retains its original characteristics and shows no changes in structure or internal stress, as is the case with other repair techniques where the process takes place at much higher temperatures and lower speeds.
- The appropriate choice of coating material composition achieves equivalent hardness to the original nitrided surface and improves the sliding properties of the crankshaft working surfaces. The refurbished working surfaces have high wear resistance and a low coefficient of friction.
- Creation of a continuous and perfectly bonded layer, spray-on base material, without pores or cracks, which has been verified by metallographic analysis at SVÚM Čelakovice.
BERK CZ is certified by the ČD, a.s. (České dráhy, akciová společnost, odbor kolejových vozidel) certification center for technical competence in the renovation of crankshafts, camshafts, and other rotating components of railway rolling stock, including rotating components of compressors and their subsequent assembly with spare parts.
BERK CZ is certified by LL-C (Certification) Czech Republic a.s. for its quality management system in accordance with the ČSN EN ISO 9001:2015 standard (Renovation of crankshafts and cylindrical products).
